Where to play tennis when staying in North Miami, Florida…
Turnberry Isle Miami, Florida is a short drive from the Fort Lauderdale airport. On our short stay in North Miami, Florida, the Cañas Tennis at the Turberry Isle Miami caught our eye. We felt compelled to check it out.
The resort is an Autograph Collection, Marriott property. When we checked into our room in the Magnolia building, in the morning. Walking to our room, there was an impressive Banyan Tree (see photo). Our impressive spacious room overlooking the golf course, had a high ceiling, an arched window and an updated luxurious bathroom. At that point, we couldn’t wait to see the tennis courts!
The tennis courts were a short walk from our room! We were told it would be easy to schedule a lesson, but we would just have to give them a couple hours’ notice. The weather, in late July, in Miami, Florida was hot and humid, even at 10am. There were four har-tru courts. We noticed a children’s tennis camp in progress. The tennis instructors were highly energetic, as were the children. You couldn’t help but watch the children having fun, learning to play tennis (teaching children tennis is my part time job and I am always on the lookout for great ideas). At the children’s clinic, the Cañas Tennis tennis Pros set up to nylon targets attached to the net (one on each side of the net). The children had to try to hit their tennis balls through the large hole in the nylon target. The children were very excited. The children then played other high energy tennis games. Meanwhile, the Pro Shop attendant brought us water bottles and towels. We were set to play our match. The tennis facility was beautifully maintained, the fence was lined with tropical flowering bushes around it. Each court has comfortable chairs to sit in, to watch or cool down, with an ice cooler next to the court. You almost forgot that it was very hot and humid, because the courts were in such great shape.
I could imagine playing at this intimate tennis club, often, and would strongly encourage anyone staying in the Aventura, in the North Miami, Florida area to check out this resort and especially the Cañas Tennis .
TIP: Resort provides shuttle to the high end shopping mall, Aventura Mall, throughout the day!
