The Gates Tennis Center, Denver CO-tennistravelsite.com

Happy New Year from the mile high city.   I attended and graduated from the University of Denver, Colorado.  Over the past 30 years since I graduated, I have flown through Denver Airport many times, but have failed to visit my old college stomping grounds.  We made the most of our 24 hours in Denver, Colorado!

We chose New Years Eve 2017, to visit Denver. First, the opportunity to see the Denver Broncos play their last game of the season at Mile high stadium, spend time with William’s buddy (tip: see their craft beer blog: Bottle Makes Three), and visit the University of Denver campus.

We drove from the Denver Airport to the University of Denver, in south Denver.   When we left the freeway,  I immediately recognized one of my old apartments and my dormitory.  As we drove around campus,  I noticed how built up the campus with, a mix of the old and the new.  I had met my late husband at the University of Denver, as a sophomore.     Across from the old field house we used to play tennis (my first tennis experience – it was more hitting and chasing tennis balls) at the tennis courts.  We noticed in its place, stood a new outdoor tennis facility with a parking structure below it.

On our way to our hotel, JW Marriott Denver Cherry Creek, a few minutes away from the University, in the Cherry Creek area, we discovered another fabulous public tennis opportunity.  The Gates Tennis Center (residency not required), outdoor facility, open year round (weather permitting).  On the website see their Winter Warriors, die hard tennis players (those who play in the cold weather).   We walked around the well groomed Gates Tennis Center, a public tennis facility (see website for fee structure and reservation information).

When in Denver, Colorado, stay in the Cherry Creek area, at the JW Marriott, play tennis in the morning, go shopping or dine (tip:  large mall, many shops and restaurants), only 25 minutes from the Denver airport.  We dined at Del Frisco’s Grille, Cherry Creek, Denver.  We had excellent service, within walking distance from our hotel.  Overall we had a wonderful 24 hours in Denver.  We can’t wait to return (in the summer)!
