Trip to Jacksonville, Florida
Southern charm came to mind as we left the Jacksonville airport. The sight of rocking chairs in the waiting area met our warm smiles! Jacksonville pleasantly surprised us with not only a wonderful airport but a nearby cruise port. Less travel time meant more time to play tennis.
Port of Jacksonville!
The seasonal rain did not stop us from checking out the tennis courts near the Port of Jacksonville. Our trip was a very smooth 20 minute drive from the airport to the Port of Jacksonville. The port of Jacksonville, also called Jaxport was located on St. Johns River. Many have enjoyed sailing year round on the popular “fun” Carnival cruise line, to the Bahamas.
Jacksonville Beach, Florida tennis!
A few miles away from Jaxport, we conveniently found the Jacksonville Beach Tennis Center, also known as the Huguenot Tennis Center. The best thing about the seven, well kept, hard surface tennis courts, was that it was in a prime location, a couple of blocks away from the beautiful Jacksonville beach.
Huguenot Tennis Center!
The easiest way to reserve court time, is to contact the Huguenot Tennis for court reservations (tennis tip: Huguenot Tennis Center phone 908-247-6221 address 218 16th Avenue South Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250), hourly rate $5.00/person (non-resident). The Huguenot Tennis Center was nestled within the busy coastal town. Palm trees which lined the tennis court area, were not only beautiful; but, offered sun and rain protection. The attendant gave us a fact sheet (tennis prices and clinics offered) and provided explanation of how to use the tennis courts, as a visitor (Yay, visitors are very welcome at this very clean tennis facility!). We noticed that were also many tennis clinics offered throughout the week including an inviting Community Round Robin, for all levels, held on Sunday mornings 9-12. Although we did not get to play tennis on this trip due to the rain, we look forward to our next opportunity. (Tennis tip: Uber ride from the Port of Jacksonville to Jacksonville Beach was reasonable $20).
It was so wonderful to discover the Jacksonville Beach area. The rain did not deter us from our travels, as Florida rain stops almost as quickly as it starts! We found plenty of shopping, restaurants, beach and of course tennis, which made Jacksonville Beach a desirable excursion whether you are leaving or returning from a cruise or just visiting Jacksonville.
